My mother in law, Margaret MULVIHILL born 1924, was Irish and I would love to know more about her family.
Her father was John MULVIHILL; mother Kate (or Catherine) Kilkeeney (not sure of this spelling) and they probably married about 1919. They lived near Creggs in County Roscommon.

I have tried using the Irish Heritage site but the records are too early for this marriage. I think I've found John in 1901/1911 aged 19/28 but the only birth/baptism on Irish Heritage doesn't quite match.

I'm in the dark here; can anyone shine a light on this family?

Thanks

Janet

This site has a load of good info on what's available for Ireland
http://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/Irish-civil-registration.html

There are some BMDs indexes on line
http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#start
However, a word of caution about this site - its not 100%. I couldn't find a number of my relatives online, but on visit to Dublin found them in the actuals indexes

Thank you Mummy Bear

I have found an old advert belonging to what looks like my husband's cousin. I met him in 1971 when he was just a lad so I've drafted a letter to him. I'll post it tomorrow with an SAE. Let's hope he knows something!

Here is a marriage of:
John Mulvihill and Catherine Kilkeeney
1919 Qtr.1 Vol.3 Page 228 Roscommon
A copy of this cert will show name of John's father and Catherine's father.

Birth of
Margaret Mulvihill
1924 Qtr.1 Vol.3 Page 175 Roscommon

Also check out:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie (1911 Census)
http://www.leitrim-roscommon.com/1901 census

Creagh, I think, is partly in Roscommon and partly in Galway, so check both counties.
Couldn't see any Kilkeeney -- but there are Kilkenny.

Best of luck.

Kay - thanks ever so much; I'm sure it's them.

I just have to find out how to order the marriage certificate.

Thanks again
