Could someone tell me how or IF I can find any record of legal separation papers submitted in regard to my Great-Grandmother & Great-Grandfather. They went to court to sort out custody of my Grandmother and for maintenance payments, although they never divorced.
Would the papers still exist?
They were separated between 1931-1935.
Thanks for any help

I'm not sure whether it would be the same thing, but in the 1920's my grandmother took my grandfather to court for maintenance after he deserted her and the kids.

The case was heard in the magistrate's court and we found the record books at the local archives. We were told that we could see anything that was more than 30 years old.

We found the case in the record books and it told us how much maintenance my grandfather had to pay (15 shillings per week each Friday) and how much court costs (7 shillings to be paid immediately).

The books were fascinating to read because the same names kept cropping up on a regular basis for things like tresspassing on the railways, soliciting, obstruction, drunk and disorderly, etc. etc.
