I have just been given permission to view someones tree. This person has no connection with me. I have other people who have done this as well. Just be carefull when you do this, as one of my family connections did and the person took most of our family history, even though we cant find a connection at all.

This subject comes up at least once a month where the pros and cons of allowing people to see each others trees are debated at great length.

If you are not interested in the persons tree then just delete the contact.

if I had a penny for all those who have offered me a look at their tree I'd be in the Bahamas now!!!

Thanks for replies. I have been on the site since it first started so I do delete them. This person was new to here and didnt realise she had given me permission, thats easy to do because of the tick box. Was just letting people know, who dont know, that this is the way for people to get your family details. I have permission to see my rellies tree, but not much use, as he has hidden all the details since it happend to him.

What I tend to do now is, if somebody opens their tree to me - or asks me to open mine - is to send a message to then asking if there is a particular relative they are interested in. A lot of the time they will reply and after a few messages we will work out that there is or isn't a connection.

But I do find it confusing when people just open their tree so I can see it and forget to close it - I must have access to 50 or 60 trees and I would reckon half aren't connected to me!
