Hi, just looking for a bit of help if possible:

I have found (I think) my great grandad on the WW1 death register - but just wondered to be sure where or how I could find further information out.

Ernest Tozer - Born A/M/J 1881 Hackney, the War record shows that he was killed on the 28th April 1917 in action - it confirms that he was in the 13th Battalion Essex Regiment, and he was born in Hackney and resided in Stratford - which appears to be correct as per the 1911 census - I just wondered if there was any other details I could find out which would confirm it is definitely him as age at death differs by two years, ut I have search the BMD from 1911 to 1980 and he isn't there - any help would be appreciated

Thanks x

Hi Jonesey

It could be - it's funny because I knew he had been married (doesn't look like he married my great nan who he was with in 1911 - her name was Alice Middleton), but on FREEBMD I couldn't tell whether it was to Amy J. Wood OR Melania Francess Strong but it appears that it was Amy Wood - may explain why he didn't marry by great nan if he was still married to Amy Wood, I am quite new to this, I had looked on cwgc.org I think, my memory isn't the best!! but I didn't see all of that.

Many thanks for looking for me, and how quick as well - amazing!!

Thanks xxx

Oooh yes, this is what I found, the only thing that would be helpful is if they gave his DOB - if it is him he would have been 36 and not 34 and this is the only thing that is bugging me really

Thanks

How sure are you of his DOB? If 34 or 36 at date of death that puts his birth around 1882. Putting 1882 +/- 3 into a search of the 1891 census returns 2 Ernest Tozers born Islington and Tottenham, both born approx 1884 and another born Holloway approx 1879 (but living in Stoke Damerel, Devon).

HI

He was born 1881 - phoned cwgc.org to see whether death cert would confirm his date of birth due to query with age, she advised that age may differ as depends on who registered his death - may have estimated.
