Absent wife 1871 census!

They would of all been men in those days, other than a dress maker or working on the looms in the textile trade in those days most women in my family are homemakers.

I believe my 3 x great grandparents were separated as she was living and died in Yorkshire and he died alone in Lancashire,he had moved to Lancashire for some bizarre reason.

I just find it odd to call her a absent wife.

One can only speculate the enumerator was a man, dont they blame us for everything! lol

Hi Everyone

My 3 x great grandmother is noted as a absent Wife on the 1871 census but i had to laugh at such sexism because its my 3 x great granddad who is absent,living elsewhere but he's not noted as a absent husband, What i am getting at is they lived at the same place on the 1861 census as on the 1871 census, and on the 1871 census its my 3 x great granddad who is absent.

Is it typical to blame the woman as a absent wife,when its the husband absent?
