Too late now, but if you order from a local registry office (e.g. Norwich, you would have to check out which one covered Forehoe) and specify the parents, if it is the wrong child they do not charge at all.

All local offices are different in how to order - some you can do online and pay by credit card, some give you a form to download and post, some you just write in with the details.

Please note that the GRO references are not used by local registry offices.

Can't see him on ancestry! But no matter, it is so hard to distinguish between these two, you will just have to guess and as Julie says specify father. If wrong will cost only 3 pounds.

There's a Henry William Bales on 1881 Census, born in Norwich (c.1867), living in Lambeth, Spurgeon's Orphanage.

Had a quick look on FreeBMD but can't find deaths for either parent during the 10 years before that, so not sure if it's your man.

To be 100% sure you'll need the cert

You can used the dads name as a ref when ordering

Out of interest, how do you know his mother's name? And where is Forehoe please? Assume near Norwich?

Hi

Would anyone mind helping me, I am trying to find out whether there is a site which would be able to confirm parents on a birth rather than getting a certificate as I have a choice of two

Henry Bales - Born J/A.S 1868 Forehoe OR
Henry William Bales - Born O/N/D 1866 Norwich

The parents are Henry Bales and Rebecca Stevenson - would anyone be able to help me please

Thanks xx
