I have two brothers who marry two sisters. After going to People, do I add it all details for both couples then merge two specific individuals or merge all duplicate idividuals?
Dont want to muck it up.

Thanks
Marion

I always merge 2 specific individuals just in case the program might merge others that I don't want to be merged.

Thanks Margaret.
Do I add all details first then?

Edit...done :))

No need to add details first, details merge, too. If there's a discrepancy between details a little "a" will show up, showing there's a discrepancy. For instance sometimes you might have a middle initial for one but not the other.

Update, Just a second thought. You are talking about Familytree Maker? You can't merge people on your tree on Genes.

Yes it was on FTM. Seems to have worked.
I haven't tried it on here...yet lol

Thank you

On FTM there is no need to merge for brothers and sisters marrying.

Just enter each of the individuals once.

Select one of the persons you wish to marry, Then select People, Fix Relationship, Attach Spouse.then select the person they married.

Do the same for the other brother / sister.

As an aside, only use merge all individuals if you know what you are doing and you have saved copies of your files first. The theory is that you can upload a second tree and then merge the two together but it can cause big headaches if some of the details, such as dob,or yob are different
