Hi,

Just to confirm that the Mary Jane you found has exactly the same date of birth, so it appears problem solved

Do you mean that it was registered during the March quarter? That would be logical.

Regarding the inquest, that would have taken place after the registration; ie a friend of mine died suddenly in the summer, her death was registered (during the September quarter, that is between July and end of September), and the inquest was held a few days ago.

Ok
I think Kate may have the answer. there was an inquest into her death. I didn't realise that would make a difference.

By the way Jaqueline her DOB was 18.07.1921

Thanks to everyone for your help

Might there have been an inquest into the cause of her death? I think in those cases you can't register the death until the coroner has made their ruling on it.

Could it be March Quarter from January to March rather than March itself.
Doesn't explain why she was buried before the death was registered. Maybe something to do with Christmas period ?

I know that sometimes you can find BMDs recorded in the next quarter, because so many days are allowed for registration, but is there any reason why a death might be registered 3 months late? I have been searching for my relative Mary Jane Irving who died 17th or18th December 1987( I know this because, I was there when she died and also at the funeral which took place on the 22nd Dec. ) but the only record is for Mary Jane Irving who died March 1988. The birth date is correct so why the discrepancy?
Can anyone offer an explantion please

Lynda
