I see what you mean now. I have a couple of names entered in upper case as well as mixed case. On names summary they show under both but with the same statistics against each one.

If searching for a name in a tree I generally only put the surname in. Unless there are hundreds you can then scroll down to find the one you want.

I mean when you add someone to your tree and it comes up with how many tree or record matches you've got

For me the problem is when I am in my own tree - and I put in say Old Uncle Albert's name who I know is in my tree - press search and the drop down says whole site, previous results, or this tree. I select this tree and up comes Search Results where it says No matches. So I usually have to type in a close relative and if I get a hit, can then find Uncle Albert in the siblings or grandparents or whatever.
It is frustrating when you are trying to find someone you know is in there somewhere - and you have another Genes member asking you about them.

I find it annoying with the Mc's as well and sometimes just sometimes it will agree with me and put in eg McAulay but 9 out of 10 times it fails. I have even been back through my tree changed them and saved them etc and yep they are McK or McD etc and when I go back the next time they have reverted to the lower case.

Some people do their surnames all in uppercase and it stays that way and when I search for someone in my tree it does not seem to care if I am in either. Have been known to start the name in lower case and do the rest in upper as I was not watching what I was doing and it finds the person.

Though I do get annoyed when it says no matches found when I know damn well I am in my own tree but that is another issue.

No I didn't know that!

I know it's really annoying when you type in a name like McAulay, it makes everything other than the initial letter in lower case!

I wonder why they have set the Hot Matches to be case sensitive? Doesn't really make sense!

Not for me. I tried it both ways and get exactly the same results. Or am I misunderstanding what you mean? I mean on "Search Trees" it makes no difference if I use upper or lower case.

Did you know your family tree on genes reunited is case sensative so the number of record and tree matches you get depends on wether you use capitals or not, found out when i entered the same relation twice once each way with differing results.
