You can search 1881 by address on Ancestry.

Thankyou both very much for the speedy replies. Saw yours first Glitter Baby so just tried it and of course there it was! As I suspected - blindingly obvious except to the blindingly stupid! Will try your way too Kath and see which seems easiest

On Ancestry from the homepage click on the "search" button.

Then underneath Historical records on the right of the page, click on "Census and voter lists".

Then click on whichever census year and country you want, i.e. 1901 England Census.

Then scroll down the page and pick off the county you want.

Then scroll down and pick the civil parish you want

Then scroll through for the address you want.

It's a very long winded affair but you can with time find what you want.

Use 1901 as an example

Click on 1901 census then select England Census - scroll down and you will find counties listed

I am helping a friend research the history of her house and want to use the censuses on Ancestry. Obviously I have to access them by address rather than names and although I have done this in the past I just can't remember how. I've looked at the various threads on this topic on here, but they all say to go to the census page and scroll down to county, town etc. I'm sure I'm being dense here, as I can't seem to find a 'Census Page' as such, and going onto any of the dated census pages just gives the Search box, with nothing below it.

Can someone please tell me what is meant by the Census Page - probably the blindingly obvious!
