When registering a birth in Scotland it became a requirement to enter the parents if married details of year of marriage and where. I have a birth certificate from 1880 with such details on but require one for about 1849, could anyone help me please what year did this became law Scotland.Thank you for any assistance. Maurice.

This was the case in 1855 and 1861 on. See:

There was no statutory registration of births before 1855 - the best you might hope for is a baptismal entry in an old parish register. Although there's a higher rate in SCT then ENG where the mother isn't mentioned at all, the standard entry gives the mother's maiden surname. The actual entry will usually distinguish illegitimate from "lawful" children, but you can't tell this from an IGI extract.
