Hi , My grandads brother john thomas powell was born on 21/1/1875 in madeley. He married in 1903 and on the 1911 census is living with his wife louisa at 29 oakdale rd waterloo lancashire. Waterloo is i think part of liverpool now.I have been trying to find out what happened to john for qiute sometime but now have a death cert but dont know whether it is the correct one.The address is different, his profession has changed to a "licensed porter" ? when he was a commercial traveller in 1911. The death in 1914 was in the sub district of Exchange in the county of liverpool. An inquest was held on 26 jan 1914 so no next of kin is not given on the certificate.Any suggestions how i could proove i have the right john? thanks for your time chris

Waterloo would have fallen under Ormskirk District until 1934 when it became part of the new Crosby District. It was a mainly residential area north of Bootle and Seaforth.

Exchange, Liverpool sounds as though the deceased was working at Liverpool Docks, which would tie in with the occupation of Porter.

Gut feel is that they are not one and the same.

It might be worth trying to find details of the inquest - local paper, perhaps - which might help prove or disprove the connection.

Hi Thanks. I have just rung the records office and the lady was very helpful. They will look up the inquest on the records for about £10 but because the death cert said he died from natural causes the inquest probabaly wouldnt be in newspapers. He was only 38 so inquest was held because the death must have been sudden. When i was checking death indexes i stopped at 1914 because i thought i had the right chap but am going to check a few more years now to see if there is another death for a john thomas powell in the right area.
before i spend £10 !
thankyou for your help
