Gwyn, I thought you might want to know so I added the info to my last post.

The asterisk is a wildcard so the search is for any name beginning with KIL. I use it a lot as I find it more useful than Soundex.

Did you find that on Ancestry, ...if so, how please?
Did you just play around with the spelling by guesswork, ....or is there a better way.

That could well be the correct Kenneth, born not too far away in Petersfield area.

I'm really grateful for your help.

Thank you for trying to help, but I still can't find first name of spouse.

I am looking for spouse (surname DINES ) of Zillah B. KILLE who married in Sept Q. in Portsmouth area.

Sometimes spouse spelling has been wrongly transcribed so it doesn't come up when clicking on find spouse .I make a note of the year and quarter and then put these in the boxes on a new search and put the spouse surname known in the bottom box leaving the surname blank in the top box. So means you search on no surname with spouse name known for the year and quarter ,this usually the finds the opposite entry

In 1938 The spouse's surname should be included in the index. Once you have the surname you will be able to look them up as you will know the quarter, registration district and page no. Also the person-you-know's surname should be on the new index..

Please will someone remind me how to search marriages oneself on Ancestry?
I'm looking for a spouse for a 1938 marriage in Portsmouth district, but spouse is not transcribed.
