Does the same apply to more recent inquests as I need one from the 1970's?

I have recently tried to find details of an inquest on one of mine. Apparently they only had to keep inquest reports for 15 years and are hardly ever available now. I have the details of it through the local newspaper, and I think this is your only hope. Don't forget that there may have been more than one local newspaper - you may have better luck with another one.

Andrea is that a standard service throughout the country? I've never heard of it, would be most useful if it is.

Hi Jacks
You can view the 19th century newspapers online through your local library number BUT you view them at home!
Just e-mail or pop into your library and they will give you the code.I have found loads of information. They date from 1800 to 1900.
Good luck
Andrea

Have you tried the nearest reference library to where the death took place. They may have back copies of newspapers on microfilm that go back further than what is online.

Hi, can i have some advise on how to find infomation on a Inquest that was held in 1839, One of my ancester's Thomas John Gillis was born in 1834 & Baptized on 12 Oct 1834 at St George parish church Gravesend, he died in 1839 & was buried at St George, Gravesend & it states on his buriel parish record that an inquest was held, i have tried looking at the local newspaper of that area online but it seems that the archive does not go back that far
Thanks
Regards
Jacks
