If anyone can help me try and find out where I go to find out what happened to 4 of my grandparents children. On the 1911 census it stats that my grandparents had 6 children, 2 still living and 4 who have died. It doesnt give me any clues to finding out their names as when the census was done they had died so therefore was listed as dead. My Grandparents were only married 9 years on the 1911 census so between 1911 and 1902 these 4 children died. How can I find out there names, birth and death certificates.

Have you tried Free BMD? putting in the surname and looking at the areas to see if any look right? More is going on all the time. I am currently transcribing 1940 marriages so a lot of info for the time period you are looking at may already be there!

good luck

you could look on LDS to see if the 2 surviving childrens baptisms are there and click on the batch number with just the surname and see what comes up.

I've done this many times, not always with results though but worth a try.

I was able to find three of my gg grandparents children from the National Burial Register.

After that it was easy to find the birth and death entries on Free BMD.

I checked 1902-1907 and there are so many Williams babies who died before reaching their first birthday in Birmingham district I think you will struggle to identify them through Freebmd.

Don't forget the local registry office. I had the same with my ggrandparents in 1911, it said two dead children that I didn't know about. I searched online and there were about 30 possible births and deaths, so I contacted the local office and within 2 days they had rung me and told me that the two dead children were both called Hannah and gave me the dates. Some of these people who work in local registry offices appear to actually enjoy their jobs!

Best of luck
