This looks like the daughter's birth. The certificate would give her mother's name:-

Name: Faith Porter
Year of Registration: 1849
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
District: Rye
County: Kent, Sussex
Volume: 7
Page: 489

I'd be inclined to think the mother's first name was Alice.

maybe a spelling mistake alice and eliss sound similar have you ordered sons birth certificate that would give you there names

i have a john porter b 1820 portsmouth,married to Elliss in the 1861 census in east sussex & looks like Allice in the 1851 census in brede, which name is right. i cannot find a marriage in either name, their eldest son was 7 years old in 1851. Can you help.
