Hi

I know when mentioned in regards to wills Admon is short for Administration but please in Laymon Terms what exactly doe's Admon mean in regards to who the will belongs to?

I have a 3 x great granddad called George Clark(e) born 1829 and he has a dad called Elijah who i believe is from Bradford,on the origins website they is a will for a Elijah Clark from Bradford but his will is dated 1827,which means this Elijah can not be my 4 x great granddad maybe my 5 x great granddad.

Thanks Barbara, would it mean that a date on a admon does not mean that my Elijah has passed away but the date he set up his will!!!

Admon actually refers to Letters of Administration. When someone dies, if they have not left a Will and there are assets of any significance to be distributed, then a near relative has to take out Letters of Administration in order to have the authority to deal with the Estate. (If there is a Will, then an Executor will have been appointed in the Will and the Executor will deal with the Estate).

Therefore, in terms of date, Letters of Administration cannot predate the death, whereas a Will can have been made many, many years before the death.
