Marriage or Birth Certs?

I'll second the recommendation to get death certificates.

Not only are the witnesses useful, but I recently found that the informant for my great grandfather was a daughter from a second family that I never knew he had !

Scottish birth and marriage certs are so much better than the English ones.

Births certs usually give a date for the marriage of the parents which is not on English one

Marriage certs only have the fathers name on .if known!
birth certs should name both parents including mums maiden name unless the child was illegitimate,
Scottish marriage certs though do have more info on them I believe but i havent bought one so not sure on that one.

Which would give me more information? Do the marraige certs have both sets of parents names? Sorry to sound dumb, but about to order first ones! Thank you.
