I have used the LDS (Mormons) many times and they are most helpful. I have sent for several films, Bishps Transcripts, Parish records etc. Use of their centre is quite free although it is wise to phone first. They have begun to charge a small fee for sending for films now - at least at my local one in Cornwall.

Hi Barbara,

Thank you for that! It certainly is helpful - living so far away has its disadvantages, but some of the websites are certainly very good.

Hi Janet,

Thank you for your suggestion - I hadn't thought of contacting them to view the films, so will do that.

Have you tried your local Family History Centre (Mormons)?

I think they may be able to help. I have never asked ours to send for films but I have read about others doing so.

Thank you for that idea - I'll certainly look at the website and maybe join up.

Any other ideas about how to access information are gratefully received.

There is some stuff for St Helens at the Society of Genealogists.

They have a borrowing service for members so if there was stuff there that was relevant, you could join up.

Hi Janice,

Thanks for the website - it is one I use frequently along with the Lancashire on-line parish clerk; however, for both websites, not all the areas have been transcribed, and I am starting to become stuck.

Was wondering if it is possible for a Records Office to loan information to another Records Office?

Hello,

I am researching my family tree, and am starting to struggle in finding more information as most of my ancestors come from Liverpool or St Helens, and I live in Plymouth. Apart from me travelling up to Liverpool/St Helens, is there any other ways to access the information which is held in Liverpool/St Helens Record Offices please?

Regards

Rachel
