can anyone tell me were i could find info on adoptions my great aunt was adopted as a child .and im trying to find out why.i know her mother had died it would have been early 1900.in lancashire.

Hi Joan,,
As the legality of adoption wasnt till mid 1927,there wont be any stored records for what you are looking for...it was done then via private arrangement or via a childrens home such as Barnados who hold a vast database and will for a fee search for any records they may hold.

A bit of a long shot, but do you know how old your aunt was when "adopted"?
Unless an infant she might well have kept her first names. Indeed, she might even have kept her original name, just possibly. Might be worth a trawl on 1911, who can say?
