I wonder if anyone can help i'm looking for a Dinah Bottomley born 1846. Bingley, Yorkshire. I cannot find any birth records. Her father is Henry Bottomley but no trace of a mother. I am stuck as to where to go now. Henry was in jail for a period time can anyone tell me where i can find the records for this. Many thanks in anticipation.

Although registration started Sept qtr 1837 not all births were registered .In 1875 it became an offence not to register within 42 of the birth with a fine for non or late registration. A few still didnt register for one reason or the other.

Here are the grandparents in 1841:

Might be worth thinking about Martha, in case she is the mother?

EDIT probably not, as she is on 1851 as martha davy.

First question, how do you know her father was Henry Bottomley? Is it from her marriage certificate?

Given that she is shown as a grand daughter on the two censuses, this tells us that one of her parents was a son / daughter of the grandparents. So looking at the info so far, this makes me think her mother was Martha Davy. There is no other sibling that seems to fit.

Is it possible that Henry, confirmed parentage for registration purposes, but died soon after?

Perhaps this was his death?

Bottomley Henry Keighley 23 251
