Yes, I agree about browser choice as well. I have both IE8 and Firefox 3.5 installed but invariably use Firefox as I also find it more reliable and that bit faster.

It is also a good idea to have an alternative browser installed in case one stops working altogether.

Hi
On Microsoft's problem solver website they recognize just the sort of problem your having. They're working on it is the answer. Had the exactly the same trouble myself. It's frustrating isn't it.
Solver-- Dump Microsoft, and install Firefox, Free On-line, No problems and much faster, and you can change lots of things instantly along the way for a bit of fun. I use XP.

I gave up on Explorer and use Google Chrome. Never had a problem.

Msc ,
Hawkwind is right, don't go buying new pc's just because internet explorer crashes on you. I gave up using Internet explorer years ago because my pc used to "hang up" every five minutes just like yours.
I downloaded Mozilla Firefox and have used that as my browser for about three years and it is rock solid ! no problem. You do not have to delete or remove Explorer, Firefox runs just fine and I always think it has been faster too.
I'm sure many others have given up on Explorer to use Firefox too.

Um...! Not necesarilly an XP problem .

Try clearing out your browser temp files - often works wonders and was one of the first things that our IT guys did at work when PC didn't respond.

Also run your Anti Virus and Anti Spyware progs regularly in case there is a nasty grabbing resource on your PC.

By all means go to Vista but do make sure your PC is up to it as it does require a fairly decent spec to work with otherwise it will slow to a crawl as Vista is much more resource hungry than XP.

Yes ancestry would also be the same , but a word of advice before logging in to ancestry from a different pc...make sure you sign out of ancestry on your old pc before signing in using your new pc, as ancestry may lock you out as it thinks multiple pc's are trying to sign in to your account. It happened to me once and I had to contact ancestry to get a password to sign in again.

Yes you can view your tree on GR from any pc. Just log on to GR with your user name and password . Your tree is stored at GR not in your pc.
