Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me. I am trying to find the Waudby's of Leicester but am struggling to find anyone of this name on the genes reunited census. The information I have is William Waudby born 1850 married to Harriet Waudby 1854 with a daughter called Emeline born 1882. I have found from other websites that they are on the census for 1901 and 1891 living in Leicester but I haven't got full access so I am trying to find the info on this site where I can see the original docs. I have tried many combinations but i'm really struggling! Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Depending on whether you've got Emeline's birth certificate or not to know for definite, this could be their wedding record:

Dec quarter 1874
Blaby registration district
volume 7a page 134

Harriet Brewin
John Henry Farmer
Sarah Ann Ross
William Waudby

(Assuming that John Henry Farmer and Sarah Ann Ross married each other)

Greeting’s & Welcome….Adele.


I was born and worked in and around Leicester for the last 67 years.

Sorry but the Village of Upwell is not in Leicestershire.

It’s in Norfolk ….
4.7 mile West of Wisbech.

Hi Mike,

William was born in Upwell but lived in Leicester from at least 1874 and all his children were from Leicester. The problem is the census for 1891 and 1901 don't show any Waudby's in Leicester!

Using the Census returns 1861…

Parents of William & Harriet …….

Upwell. Norfolk.
William Son of Robert & Mary Waudby.

Wigston Magna
Harriet.Daughter of William & Elizabeth Brewin
William is from Southampton.

Just as a note


this is not the best site on which to obtain census information


for one, you cannot move from one page to another, so that if "your" family information goes over the page, you cannot follow them.


two, you cannot make changes to mis-transcribed names or information on GR

three, several of us still consider that GR does not in fact carry its own transcriptions of the censuses, but instead directs you to another site


four, GR does not carry the 1881 Census ........ because it is available for free on www.familysearch.org, the Mormon site, or even on www.ancestry.co.uk
