I agree Trevor. I think it's a disgrace.

I joined about 5 years ago; I think they've kept the price the same for 'old' members to keep the numbers up.

You're probably right. They didn't admit it, though!

On the home page it used to say, over my name, Standard Member until...(date). That seems to have disappeared!

I have also been a member of GR for about 5 years.

This year, last May, GR did not email me to let me know my membership was due for renewal.

I only found out when I tried to view my cousin's tree when she contacted me.

I just left it; in the end they offered to reinstate me at £10 year after I had said 'forget it!'

Sorry; I misread your message.

Do you mean that you are at the beginning of your year's membership or towards the end?

If you are near the end of the year and you are on automatic renewal you need to contact them a few days beforehand or you will be charged for WW membership again.

I'm sure you know that already!

Oh yes, it will let me upgrade.

I want to downgrade - no option for that....!

Hawkwind

I suppose you've tried the obvious on Ancestry? Go to 'My Account' and you should be able to upgrade from there.

Failing that, contact them. I'm sure you'll get a fast answer if you are offering them money!

i) If you are on an annual membership then you can renew on the same basis, provided you do so within 28 days.

ii) If you have, for whatever reason gone on to 6 month membership, there does not seem to be any way to get back to 12 months (other than persuading GR to change it)

iii) GR reserve the right to charge what they wish and to have differential rates depending on market conditions.

Question

I am on Ancestry Premium which is a waste of money for me so I want to go to Essentials. I don't seem to be able to change this on-line.

Should I cancel and start again?

P.S. have till end of Oct.

Jonesey - Ancestry offered me a Premium membership for no extra cost last year; I was in the middle of an Essential membership.

I checked to see how much I'd paid for Premium on this year's renewal and it was just over £83.

In the words of Basil Fawlty; for once I am up on the deal.

I renewed in August and it was £9.95 for a year

Have you changed your membership in "My Account"

Or have you changed at sometime to Gold Membership?

Thelma

Thelma Report 15 Oct 2009 15:54

If you paid £9.95 for a year, last time, then it should not have altered

Wildgoose

Wildgoose Report 15 Oct 2009 15:53

I renewed last June so I didn't know about this myself.

I have only paid £10 a year because I've been a member for a long time.

I think newer members have been paying twice this amount for some years.

If the subs go up for next year, then I shall just become a free member.

EDIT - Jonsey - I let my membership lapse last May and GR offered me a year's sub for £10
