Recent deaths - can I order?

I want to order death certificates for an uncle who died as a child in 1940 and my grandmother who died in 1960. I can't find listings for them on bmd or igi. GRO need areas and exact dates of death.

Child is Malcolm Campbell died in 1940 in Barnet, Herts
Grandmother is Florence Campbell died in 1960 - not sure exactly where but London area.

Thanks

Am sure they are right - fantastic - thanks so much

Am wondering why you could find them and I couldn't??

FreeBMD only goes up to about 1930 for deaths and the IGI is mainly before 1900.

You need a subscription site like ancestry for more recent deaths like the ones you were looking for and you have to search the images qtr. by qtr. looking through all the deaths for the one you want.

With the reference numbers you have been given by Jonesey you will not need the exact date of death as long as you remember to tick the "yes" box when the form asks if the full GRO reference is known.

Thanks for explaining Kathleen. I do have Ancestry but hadn't realised that I needed to search by quarter.

Another lesson learned from here.

It's only for deaths between about 1930 and 1983 that you have to search qtr. by qtr. Before that and after that the deaths are transcribed so can be searched by putting in a name

All births and all marriages up to 2006 are also transcribed.
