Ann

I've seen that happen .......... and just hope that they read to the end of the posting and see (and understand!) NO NO NO!!!!

Hi Sylvia

put that up because a few times recently it has happened that possible info has been put up, then the correct (eg) marriage but not all the replies have been read and the true data has been ignored and the supposition used as true causing all sorts of confusion

when that happens to me ..... I have started to edit the posting (copying what someone else was doing!!).

I leave the information there, but add at the bottom something like INCORRECT, or NOT THE CORRECT FAMILY (sometimes adding BECAUSE xxxxxxxx)

That way people can see that it has been found and ruled out ........ and prevents the same information being posted later.

another reason for deleting a post is that the poster has posted information which is later proved wrong so it is deleted to avoid confusion.

It is probably because someone has found that the info they posted has already been added by another member, and is therefore superfluous.

some people also delete a posting if they think the thread owner has read the information, and it is no longer needed

................... others will delete if it seems that the thread owner has not returned to the thread within a reasonable amount of time.

I personally find it annoying ........ because that posting might be of use if the thread owner still needs further information finding, or if it was a general reply that might help other people.

A poster can often delete a reply if they find that someone else has beaten them to it and already given the same information that they have found. Rather than have the information on the thread repeated several times people will often delete a reply.

Posts can be deleted by the poster or by an administrator. If the poster has deleted it it's probably a result of 'housekeeping' - if you delete all your posts in a thread that thread no longer shows up in "my threads".

Administrators (from Genes Reunited) will delete posts or even whole threads if they are considered to be offensive or if they are seen as advertising rival sites or highly critical of GR. That is, if they happen to spot them or another member complains.

If a lot of posts have been deleted from one thread it could be because an administrator has spotted a sequence of highly critical posts.

As an aside to this, if the originator of a thread deletes their original post the whole thread will disappear from GR. So if you find something you really want to keep for reference don't just bookmark it, copy and paste it to Word Pad or whatever word processor you use.

i have had a lot of posts deleted in one of my threads and am confused as to why. Any advise please. Why would someone post and then delete their post doesn't make sense.
