I have found out my G Grandfather was a merchant seaman and where his home address was for the birth of some of his children in England, so far so good, but in my hunt I now find he was a Naturalized British Subject, possibily Russian by birth.

As yet ( I live in hope ), I have no documentation to 'prove' either Russia or ships papers - but family members strongly believed both of these things to be true. Can anyone advise me how to track him down, bearing in mind the anglacised version of his name might not actually be his birth surname, any advice would be welcome, many thanks C

The National Archives have naturalization records BUT some said they were legally able to be in the UK but never took naturalization. I have German ancestors and on 1891 and 1901 census its stated that they are born Germany -British subjects but they didnt take naturalization cos I have checked at KEW
