Brit, I would ask for the solution except for the fact that I've had this problem with aol before!

The last time they kept telling me to try this, that & everything else, none of which worked; but managed to miraculously fix it themselves when I threatened to take my business elsewhere.

I'm also finding it impossible to post on some forums; clearly aol have changed something and it does annoy me when they ask us to fix their problems!

I hope it stays fixed for you, but in my experience if I fix it myself now it will all go wrong again in 6 - 12 months. I'll just keep using Internet Explorer for now & hope it sorts itself out; or start threatening them again!

Thanks anyway, Sue.

Thanks for that. It probably doesn't affect other browsers in the same way as they work differently to AOL.

Hawkwind, Yes it is an AOL problem. It involved clearing footprints and enabling tunneling. Would that apply to other browsers too I wonder?

Brit,

Just to clarify for anyone reading this thread, that the problems described and the solution you have are specific to AOL users?

Hi everyone I had two lengthy sessions with aol Help yesterday (AAARGH!) and the problem is finally fixed!! If anyone else has this problem pm me and I will send you the transcripts of the sessions so you can fix yours too. I can get right on to the site this morning with no signing in at all. Rgds

It sounds like an aol problem. You browser isn't retaining your log-in and password details. I haven't used aol for years so don't have a copy of their browser, but is there a setting somewhere which needs changing?

Firefox has one which you tick to remember passwords in its security settings.

Hi all, I have exactly the same problem with aol; it started a couple of weeks ago I think. I have a solution, but not a cure! Try using Internet Explorer instead, it works for me. I can stay permanently signed on and go from section to section without any trouble.

I have no idea what's going on with aol though!

Sue.

Well at least I am not alone in this Audrey. GR don't seem to be able to suggest anything but I am sure it has to be something to do with their setup. I will go online with aol and see what they have to say though. Will let you know.

Hi Brit,

I to am with AOL and have had this problem for some months now although I have enabled my session cookies as GR instructed. I am also finding that despite putting in my email address and password on the log in site I keep getting the message "oops please enter email address". I am getting really fed up with it so I just hope there is someone out there who can suggest something to cure this problem!

Hi has anyone else had this problem? I cannot stay connected to GR if I switch pages. e.g. if I try to access my tree and have been on this board I have to sign in again, two and three times, on the sign in page. I have checked the remember me tab.

I asked GR about it and they told me I had to enable session cookies (I have aol) and I had already done that for GR. I used to be able to go from page to page with no problem and I have no trouble with any other site, just GR.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? Thanks a lot. Brit
