If you use the "wildcard name" option rather than the "names starting with" option, you can just search for surnames matching *A*, *E*, *I*, *O*, *U* and *Y*. That way you only have to do 6 searches rather than 26, as just about any name will have at least one of those characters.

Oh dear, managed to delete other thread!! Jonesey has added this onto his excellent 1911 tips thread, but just in case:

If you want to see who is at a particular address in 1911, try this - it won't always work but when it does it's very useful:

1. enter county and district of residence if known
2. put number and street in "residential place"
3. put "a" in surname box and specify "names beginning with"
4. repeat for all letters

You can search whole streets like this! It seems a bit of a palaver, but trust me, you can search whole alphabet in no time.
