Have sent them a very polite message pointing out the error and advising them of the info I believe to be correct for their tree

Thanks for all input

I once spent the best part of a weekend trying to sort out an error by someone who'd supposedly got a match with my tree. It turned out they'd got the wrong Ann Smith (name changed to protect privacy) but it took me ages to find the Ann Smith who should be in their tree. I didn't get round to sorting out which children her husband had by which wife but it all looked highly unconventional! But I felt rather pleased that it wasn't me who'd got the wrong one. And the other person was quite grateful for the information.

And the moral of this? Always double-check your sources and get confirmation from two independent ones wherever possible.

Someone - way out on a limb from my actual family - put my father in LDS and was two days out in his birth. I notified the submitter and he told LDS but they have never changed it - that was about six months ago.

The same person got other members of my family all mixed up in his tree and it took me awhile to straighten it all out. But he did make the necessary changes and has now been more than helpful to me in looking up data that I did not have.

Thanks Jonsey

Person in question has 2 1891 census citations & the incorrect 1901. Have done some digging and think I have found the right marriage and 1901 for them.

It's easily done and the people in question have same christian names and middle initial and live near each other.

Will let them know

I know this has come up many times.

I have just found out through Ancestry's recent activity that someone has put my relatives on their tree which is an error.

I can understand why they has done it as the birth place on both 1891 &1901 census are incorrect, which could leave them to believe they have the right person.

Should I tell them?

I'm in two minds.

Vote for is that they have only been a member of Ancestry since June this year so are probably newbies.

Vote against is that looking at other relatives on their tree they seem to be copying info & photos from others.

My tree is private & until I am sure any people contacting me are correct they don't get access.

All views appreciated.
