Its always better to work back from the marriage cert first.

Witnesses might be family and so make it easier for you to locate them on the census

West Bromwich came under Staffordshire.

Dudley under Worcestershire.in 1881

Can you give us your 2xgt grandmothers name ?

I have checked 1881 census which shows her living with aunt and uncle, the IGI returns nothing looks like I'll have to buy the marriage certificate.

Have you found the family in the 1881 census? if so you could use mothers or fathers Christian name as reference check.

If you need help then post some details.

Do you have her marriage certificate?
It should name her father and his occupation. Using that information should make it possible to find her in 1881 census and see what is given as her birthplace.

I have searched for birth info on my Paternal GGMother, only to find that there are two people with the same name born in the same year (I know it was 1876 but not the month). One birth is registered in West Brom the other in Dudley, for those who don't know they are adjacent to each other. When applying for her certificate which one should I chose?
