Printing a copy of Tree

The GR tree printing facilities are basic to say the least.

A far better way is to invest in a tree program such as Family Tree Maker which has facilities to print several different types of charts and reports and select the names and individuals you want to include.

Hi Joyce

This was on one of the other boards a day or two ago.

This site has different types of trees to print. (free)

I hope the person who put this on the thread won't mind me copying and pasting!!

Good luck

The only way I get a good print is from Tribalpages which means opening a free tree and loading the gedcom from GR,
Their reports are brilliant too, now my tree has crept up to nearly 1000 it may be time for Ron's printing services .I'm wondering if it would be possible to print the names onto sticky labels and assemble a tree on a roll of paper ?
Just a thought !

I have one branch assembled on a roll of sticky back plastic to hold the separate pages together, easy to roll up and keep clean, sounds a bit like Blue Peter !

I should add - if you do use family search - I am not sure how public these trees are on the family search records. If you would prefer not to have the names of the living available - as you can do on GR - it might be safer to delete them once you have it printed out.

On a similar thread some time ago, I asked if anyone could give some guidance on this point but there was no reaction - anyone there now know about this? is the PAF file on my computer private to me?

Sorry Lindsey - didn't see posts after mine.

To be honest, I'd go with other's suggestions at down loading it as a GEDCOM and open it up on your home comp with a family tree programme.

The one and only time I printed mine out from here, like you I had loads of blank pages which 'squared it up' and I had to lay the whole thing out on the living room floor to stick it together!

However, the link I gave suggests that you should be able to print off a screen view, so why you got contacts and parts of someone elses tree, I have no idea!

I gedcomed my tree to family search - which is free. It prints out pretty well, and you can do different bits of the family, starting with one character and clicking descendants or ancestors - andin two different forms including a wall chart. It will of course take up quite a lot of pages. nothing can prevent that!

It doesn't of course print out on the tree your back-up notes - but they are stored for reference on the file.

I came here intending to ask the very same question about how to print off my tree.
Followed the instructions given but when I clicked on "print tree" I got a message about print preview requires Flash Player and inviting me to download it.
As I'm using a work computer I don't have permission to download & install programmes.
At bottom left of screen I have message saying "can't find movie" and then numbers tumbling.
Apart from using another compuetr, is there a way I can print my tree without Flash Player?

Hii DET , Have you actually printed your tree from GR ?
The last time I did all I got was 200 blank pages? and before that parts of a tree that didnt belong to me or was on my list of contacts !

Go to the 'help' button on the dark green bar above the title of this thread. On the left of this page is a section about printing trees.

*

If you go to your tree you need to select the 'full tree'. You can do this by selecting the 'full tree' view at the top of the page. Click on 'print' to see the print menu. Full instructions are given on how to print out your tree here. You can print the entire tree. You can print a single page too depending on the size of your tree.

You can print out any trees that you have access to in the same way that you print out your own. You must view it in the 'full' tree view and then you'll see the option to print.*
