Criminal Records

Can anyone advise how to find details of criminal records? It looks like I have two crimes in the family - a possible murder in the early 1900s and something more trivial in the 1960s. I was wondering if I might be able to find newspaper archives somewhere or if there are accesible records on convictions? All pointers appreciated. Thanks,

If the murder trial was heard at the Old Bailey you should find it here: http://www.oldbaileyonline.org/

If the crimes were rported nationally you might find them in the Times Digital Archives: http://archive.timesonline.co.uk/tol/archive/

Otherwise, I would think a local newspaper might have carried an account.

Contact your local library ... especially if you can narrow the time period down.

Many thanks for your replies. I've got a few possibilities to follow up now. Sadly I know more about the crimes and names than I do dates but hopefully I'll find something. Thanks.
