I have found Rees Thomas b 1898 and his father Rees Thomas and mother Mary A in the 1901 Census for Wales but can't find the family in the 1891 Census. I am new to the Welsh Census and all the area around Dowlais, Glamorgan. I know Rees and Mary A had about 20 children and the son Rees Thomas was born in 1898 and married Phyllis Mary Wilkins.
If anyone is used to working with this area in Wales and the problems hunting a surname like Thomas I would very much appreciate some help and advice.

Still looking for marriage of Rees and Mary A . We will need to find Rees birth and you will need to order the birth cert to confirm his mothers maiden name. The marriage is only guesswork at this time, but put it on here as is the only marriage I could find at this time and had to search many records to find and did not want to lose it.
I would also suggest ordering one of Rees and Mary's childrens birth certificates to get the mothers maiden name, as difficult to find a marriage.

Thank you so much for all your help. I was tearing my hair out. The occupation was coal Hewer on the 1901 Census. The family were all in coal mining. Thats why I was unsure about the entries on the 1891 and earlier census records. Will go with your suggestions and order certificate for one of the children. It could well turn out that there wasn't a marriage - have found that several times before on other branches of my tree.
If anyone out there needs help with the Norfolk/ East Anglia side of England I am very happy to help as I was born there.

You and ask GRO for a match with Rees as father and Mary as mother, makes it a little less expensive and saves buying the incorrect certificate.
I have not been able to track a definite birth for Rees born circa 1860, surprisingly it is a common name and there are many born about that time in Mertyr Tydfil.
