Thanks for your help.
Kate, I will try and contact the local library and find out, but I dont live in Kent myself so it makes looking that much harder. I will see if my local library can help, thanks.
Jill. My Grandfather was Henry (known as Harry) Arthur Desforges and my Nan was Joan Marjorie Desforges. Thanks

NW Kent has its own FHS so they may be worth contacting.

It's possible that someone will have a photo or bit of info.

According to Phone Directories in Ancestry:

1959:

A S Desforges "The Tradesman's Arms" Stone.

Does this help at all?

(There's also a Robert J Desforges in Gravesend)

It might be worth trying the local library in that area. My great-grandparents ran a hotel from the 1920s to the 1940s and when we tried the local library there, in the reference section they had the town directories (sort of like today's phone book) listing all the tradesmen, professional people, hotel/pub keepers etc.

Hi. Can anyone help me? My Nan and Step-Grandfather ran a pub in Dartford, Kent in the 1950's. It was The Salutation Pub, Heath Road, Dartford. Last year I went to look for it and found that it had been knocked down and offices had been built in its place (but only in the last few years!) The only picture I can find of it online is a thumbnail picture and would like to find a larger one, but cannot. Also, I was wondering if there would be any records of their names on files as publicans, (surname - Desforges) but I cannot trace it. Or indeed any newspaper stories but I dont know how to go about finding this info. My Step Grandfather died in the 1970's and my lovely Nan passed away 2 years ago. I have only just started looking at our family history. Thanks for your help.
