Only ever seen N O S - something to do with boats/ships


There are several sites that list abbreviations used on census

Anthony have a look at other pages completed by the same enumerator and see if he uses NSO for other people. That will give a bit of extra weight to my guess.

ty very much for that .. there was another N.S.O on the census and that was his brother :-)
