I bought a laptop with Vista and found that Mozilla Firefox worked better than Internet Explorer. When you go onto a site that you want to visit frequently (Ancestry, GR etc.) then bookmark it under 'bookmarks toolbar' and you have your own instant access on the screen at all times. Incidentally, I have the genealogy toolbar as well and it is brilliant.

just google Genealogy Toolbar and you will find the site and the free download. Regards Irene

Assuming you're using IExplorer, up at top there's a box showing:
http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.asp?wci=thread&tk=1187771
i.e., the URL for this web page. to the right, I've got a much smaller google box, and I just type stuff in there, then hit enter.
To go to another site, enter the address in the left box (after removing the GR URL) e.g. type (or paste) in:
http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

Below the box, at left, I've got a gold star labeled Favorites. Click on this, and I get a drop down list of my favorites for me to click on. In the top margin of that list, there's an "add to favorites" clickable link which opens a little dialog box - I think the default is to put the new favorite where you put the last one, but if you want, you can create a new folder "Genealogy" say, with the "new folder" button, and put the link in that - or even in Canada/Scotland/England/etc folders created inside your genealogy folder.

I really hate to tell you this

............. but we couldn't get Vista to work for us on the laptop we bought last year

After a couple of months trying to sort it out (OH is a stubborn so-and-so at times) ..................... we took it into our local geek computer shop, and they replaced Vista with Windows.

At that time, they had another 12 laptops waiting to also be changed over.

Hi folks.

My PC died on my today. I have gone out and bought a new laptop. It is Windows Vista, my old one was XP. I am definitely a noddy with computers. I have managed to put this website into Favourites, but I can't for the life of me find Google, or Ancestry, or anything else.

I am hoping to get the old (which is not old) computer repaired next week.

Can anyone tell me how you get websites up in Vista, and into Favourites?

I am stupid at this.

Words of one syllable please.

Margaret
