Thank you all . yes i did have the 1911 original. And i haven,t got the Marr cert or a birth cert for the children ,I know thats the thing to do ,but as always it,s money ,and how much it,s worth it ,But thank you all ,It,s nice to air a problem . Robert

Jonesey you echoed my own thoughts. I've just taken a look at the original transcript and the 'single' has been added afterwards in green ink the same as used on the other notations the enumerator made.
If you haven't got it already then get the marriage certificate. That way we will know what William did for a living , hopefully his age and the name of his father.

Do you have a copy of the marriage certificate of William and Bertha or the birth certificate of one of the children as this will gives Williams occupation - he may have been at sea or working away for the 1901 census. To many William Nortons in 1901 census to find him without further details. Irene

In 1897 a Bertha Hider Marr a William Norton . In 1901 she is with her family and a son bn 1898 .in 1911 she has another son with her bn 1902 ,the enumerator as her down as single .But no where is William . Now if he divorced her ,whould she keep his name , If he died would they not put Widow , Your opinion ,Please .Thank You .Robert
