Thank you all for the replies. I did google his name but nothing came up. I will perhaps write to the Home Office in the first place to check what records would be either in the public domain or available to family.

Hi Sue
Have you tried googling his name? If he did anything "interesting" there might well be something on the internet. I'd also look on the national archives website, in the documents online tab. You can search for a name the same as google.
You might find out the crime isn't anything very interesting - I have a friend who was sent to Pentonville for not paying a motoring fine!

I found out that one of my rellies was imprisoned in Pentonville in the 60s. Does anyone know how long records are sealed for? Also this person is now deceased.
