Institutions -1911

Just a quick query.

If someone is listed as being in an institution in the 1911, does it automatically mean he was mentally incapacitated?

His parents are still living and 2 of his siblings are still at home.

It's just that he had an uncle who was listed as an 'imbecile' on the 1891 - so just wondered if there could be a connection.......?

Would be grateful for some thoughts on this. Thanks.

Cynthia

Institutions on the 1911 census is a broad term,
Institution can refer to a lot of things. A home for mentally ill or disabled, a prison, a hospital, a learning institution, a work institution, orphanage etc.
so not to be assumed for the mentally incapacitated

Hello, SomersetGirl. I don't know the name as I have done a Jonesey type search! However, I am quite interested in this so I think I will get the full transcription. Thank you for your time. Cx.

Adding to the information. I have found a couple of people living in different Institutions and they were in a lodging house or a school
