WW2 Army Records

I spoke to them on the phone before ordering my Dads WW2 army records and was told that there was likely to be a 6-8 month wait because they were swamped with work associated with the present conflicts. It seems they do more than just look after records associated with historical matters.

I did get a fairly fast response just acknowledging my application though, so at least I know that it is in the system. Might be worth a phone call if you've not heard from them.

Mother in law and I applied for my father in laws records back in june and we have heard nothing since. We also applied for his ww11 medals and they were with us within a few days.

Hi all!

I applied for my Grandad's WW2 Army Records a couple of months ago and they came within a month. Since my Nan is still living, and was obviously his next of kin, I was able to get her to fill in the application form (it's a really basic form so she didn't mind!) and we didn't have to pay anything.

I applied in August and got a letter saying there could be up to a six month delay as they were very busy. They did offer to refund the £30 if I didn't want to wait that long. I have left it with them, but haven't had anything back yet.

Reference Royal Navy Records
Here is the link to the Veterans Agency, which explains as the following

http://www.veterans-uk.info/service_records/royal_navy.html

Prior to 1972 all RN personnel were given their service record when they discharged. For pension purposes the RN retained pay details. Therefore the only information held on RN personnel who served prior to 1972 are their Service details (number, rank, name etc) and a list of dates and ships/shore bases.

I don't think Royal Navy records for that period are available - I seem to remember seeing somewhere that each man's record was given to him when he left the Navy. Try the National Archives site - it tells which and where Navy records are available.

Some earlier records are available and can be downloaded from the National Archives site, costs £3.50.

It took 8mts for the one i sent off for, I have heard it can be between 3mts to 12mts to get them.

Hope it helps you out when you do get them.

Evening All

Has any one applied for any WW2 army records recently?

I sent for my father's in July. I realise they may be busy with other things. Don't like to phone and pester them. Any one know what the waiting time is at the moment please?

Thanks
