I'm no expert but I think it does so automatically. I used to get the "prompts"

I get a little yellow warning triangle at the bottom of the screen by the date, that says Windows is doing it, but internet still keeps crashing on me. It's not the internet provider at fault.

The site that Netty has recommended has the instructions clearly set out.

It is normal to set the VM cache to be 1.5 times the size of your physical memory. Increasing it by too much may actually reduce performance and it is may be necessary to consider increasing your physical memory as well if this is on the low side to start with.

Has the problem just started happening? Sometimes it helps to close windows that you are not actually using, as each one you have open uses a bit of memory, even when minimised.

Also, windows isn't brilliant in managing memory and sometimes doesn't release it as quickly as it should when you close a program or tab. To get round this it is a good idea to shut down your PC altogether every now and again. Wait a couple of minutes and restart it up again.

The other thing to do is to use task manager to monitor the amount of memory in use. Sometimes this will point you to a rogue process or program which is trying to take over the pc.

Thank you, I will look at this

I have deleted my browsing history and that has helped a little but not cured it

http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/

Hi Dee,
You could try giving your computer a good spring clean using CCleaner (Above URL) which will clear out all the rubbish that builds up.
www.filehippo.com is a site full of free software and is quite safe.
Just make sure you press the correct button as there are pay for program buttons which tend to be more prominently placed as well as free ones.......if you are asked for payment, you pressed the wrong button.

Click on the BIG GREEN BUTTON ....Download Latest Version (top right)
Next page will show two big download buttons for pay programs BUT.........BUT.........BUT......... don't click on them, click on the small print (top left) that says...........

Thank you. Your download will start automatically.......if not then click here ....!!

Download and run.
It can take a few minutes on the first run.

Bottom right..........click........ RUN CLEANER

After that you can tidy up the registry (2nd button top left)
Scan for issues..........fix selected issues........

Give it a shot.

Ccleaner is a brilliant program and well worth using on a regular basis, but may not sort you memory problem by itself.

Have you tried a complete shutdown as I suggested? Is there a particular program or website which seems to cause the problem when you run / open it?
