Thanks Janet

I have been on line to Norfolk Records Office. I cannot find any nmformation on him yet. I will keep looking and must make the effort to join the local geneology society.

Its certainly a possibility, or the family had him christened before moving to East Dereham. I'd look at removal orders too just in case Dad was from East Dereham and was removed there.

Janet that is amazing!
I had no idea that is what went on.

I now live in Norfolk so it is no trouble to visit the Records Office and have a look.

Do you think that his family had moved to East Dereham but still had him baptised at West Tofts their family home?

I am so excited to be near to finding his roots.

Norfolk record office have an online facility to search for settlement orders. Typically, it's not working at the moment!

It could be. Have you looked for settlement orders in East Dereham? You may find something in them if the family moved from West Tofts.

Hi
My gg Grandfather Robert Rayner's birth records are proving very difficult. He was born c1803.
On all the censuses he puts his birth town as East Dereham, Norfolk. He married Susan Gosling from nearby North Elmham and settled there to raise his children for a while.

I have been to the Norfolk Records office and searched all the baptism records but can not find any Rayners let alone Robert!

I have found a Robert Rayner baptised in 1803 in West Tofts which is about 15 miles from East Dereham. Could ;this be my Robert Rayner? What do others think?
