Another one worth a look is http://www.durhamrecordsonline.com/
You don't get to see original records, and you have to pay a bit, but it's useful.

Thanks for that link Duncan, something else for me to pour over lol. The hours I spent browsing the burials have not yielded anything of use to me yet, but have only managed the 535 pages for Chester-le-Street :)
Give me a shout in a few days when I've gone through the rest!! lol

Thanks Sue

My husband's line is from Durham. Lots of Price's and Smith's so every bit of help needed!

Oh how I hate that delete key! - no request for confirmation.

Just wanted to say thanks to Sue for the link - an excellent find.

Those BTs that Duncan mentions are a godsend - I have found them very useful (and they cover parts of N'land too).

I also like the GIS mapping service that DCC provides with their historical maps ('Map' tab on Sue's link) - very useful for seeing streets that have since been demolished. There seems to be a lot of investment in these services (and I'm not being parochial here, I was born North of the Tyne).

Best Wishes

Hi Sue

Thanks for posting this, it's a new one on me. Do you also know about the Bishops Transcripts for Durham on http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#c=1309819;s=waypointsOnly;w=0;p=waypoint

Found this site today, burials in Durham. Most are from the 1890's to the present time. Have just spent a few hours just browsing, the saddest sight was of an unknown stillborn in 1977. Makes you wonder how desperate the mother was.
