I have just found the family I am looking for on the ships passenger list to the States but find they have all been crossed through thy mother and 7 children. I think the husband may have gone on an earlier voyage.

Any ideas as to why the whole family were crossed through?

I find that a lot of names on the Ellis Island site have been crossed through but I don't know why. I don't think that it means they didn't make the voyage. I have seen cases where someone "missed the boat" as it were but that's usually made note of at the bottom of the page.
Do you know if your family actually made the voyage?

Hi Margaret,

Yes, I have found them on the 1930 American census, and since putting this Q on here, I have found that the husband was a ships fireman, so I will see if i can locate him.

Perhaps it is like the census pages with crossing out - usually obliterating the ages which is just what you wanted to know!
