Thank you for your replies. I will try both the library and the local newsagent. Not sure why I didn't think of that really!

Your nearest main library may have current copies that you can read, to get a feel for which one might suit your needs.

It is really like asking 'How long is a Piece of String?" There is no one answer.

I have subscribed to Your Family Tree since it started and have all 84 copies bar one. There is a main themed article each month so it could be Censuses, BMD, Partish Registers etc.

Then you get regulars, tips, letters and current comment from a band of genealogical journalists, plus news You also get a CD disc

Why not buy a few different ones over the next few months and see what you think.

Oh sorry, I should have said. Family History type of magazine. There's some sort of offer on 'Who Do You Think You Are' but I wondered if other mags are actually better value and/or more useful.

Are you thinking something genealogical or family history type magazine here?

Or something a little more ... erm ... ?

LOL

Which would be the best to go for? There's several threads on here discussing magazines, but I know there's new magazines out, and I'm not sure which one to ask Santa for. Any preferences?

Thanks, Sue
