On my aunt's birth certificate my grandad rank/profession was given as Miner, (Private No. 1154 National Reserve). Does this mean he was like one of the Bevin boys in WW11 or was he a miner and a national reservist?

Any ideas anyone?

Try this site: www.thelearningcentre.org/ww1/sect1_p1.htm

Reading it, I would think he had previously been in the Army. Could he have served in WW1?

If it was the 1st world war he most likely would have already served in and been discharged from the army and was too old to fight in WW1

My grandfather ( previous army record)was in his late forties when he enlisted and was sent to a munitions factory and a family member who was on the national reserve was sent to a coal mine but he had been in France a few months previously and had been discharged on medical grounds
