I'm afraid I always think of ghostly visits when I see the word "Visitations"!

My ggg grandmother died as a result of a Visitation from God. She was 97 in 1842, so I am not surprised that God visited her.

The bishop would periodically have a visitation of all his parishes - not that often - say every 10 y or less frequently.

Hi all, thanks for your input, I will take a look at the two addresses you have given me, both sound promising.

This may be a better possibility.

Visitation of God
This categorization of death seems to have been invoked when death arose inexplicably, or when it followed actions which were not regarded as being likely, under normal circumstances, to have resulted in a fatality.

Heraldic Visitations were tours of inspection undertaken by Kings of Arms in England, Wales and Ireland in order to regulate and register the coats of arms of nobility and gentry and boroughs, and to record pedigrees. They took place from 1530 to 1688, and their records provide important source material for genealogists.

Doesn't seem to fit somehow, unless the individuals you are referring to were nobility. Even then it doesn't sound like the right era.

Hi brummiejan, not on a birth certificate, I found in Parish records that are held in our library, I also tonight found it in burials, I must add that it was before 1837, some one told me it was something to do with Heraldry ????
