I can't think why they deleted derek's thread as I had not checked it recently but did it maybe contravine T&Cs? Did anybody mention other sites etc? If GR deleted it for that reason or because somebody complained (for whatever reason) then, as they usually do, they would delete any threads put up about the deleted thread. (does that make sense?)

FRANK06 Report 3 Dec 2009 20:49

Hey guys,

Our thread was deleted without any explanation and did not contain anything subversive or nasty...........just a bunch of old fogies ( I use the word loosely ) having a chat and pushing up tips.

A second thread was started with someone having a pop at us old fogies, so we shoooed someone away all in the best possible taste of course!

Oh dear, someone took the huff and had every post with someone's name on them deleted.

It would appear that you cannot mention someone using that poster's name even when replying to someone's post !??

All that is required is for someone to take offence at a post with someone's name in it, so even naming a " someone " who has made a comment appears to be grounds for deletion.

And of course now we have your thread about thread deletion, deleted.................................how long will this one last.

It really is in the lap of the gods !

Every post and every thread has a tab at the right hand side of the "name" row that says Request Review

All it needs is for someone to click on that button, fill in the box that opens, say they find this thread/posting "abusive" or "against T&Cs" or whatever

and GR will delete the thread in at least 75% of the cases with vey little examination. There is some checking ..... because I have seen postings re-appear.

I have never seen a thread re-appear ......................... the complainant must say something like "many abusive/wrong/against T&C postings on this thread."

It really is ridiculously easy to get postings removed ........ and also threads or so it appears.

In the case of the thread that Frank is tlaking about ......... I would imagine the person who posted a somewhat snarky remark, didn't like the comments that were directed towards them, and clicked Request Review to complain. Made a good job of the complaints as well as the postings were removed ....... no matter whether the complaints were true or false (exaggerated)!

Hi all, I have twice complained to GR about Derek's thread, and did not get a satisfactory answer.

I am beginning to suspect that we have a malicious person in our midst, complaining to GR knowing that they will delete any threads complained about, without double checking the content.

If this is the case, would GR take any notice of our suspicions,or is it a lost cause.

Any suggestions ???

SylviaInCanada Report 4 Dec 2009 00:50

To be brutally honest .... I think it might well be a lost cause.

The only person they would really tell anything to is Derek as the thread "owner", and they seem to have refused.

The "owner" of the thread that Frank and I were talking about has never been given a reason.

and yes, there is at least one person who complains regularly to GR about postings and threads.

................ and there was another person who has allegedly been warned by GR for making too many complaints. At least that is what I was told by someone just last week.

BTW .................. another long time thread disappeared on General overnight. It had been started in May 2009, as a replacement of one that had been going for many months and disappeared overnight. They have started all over again.

I never posted on that one ...... but I did notice this morning's new thread, and read part of it.

The Meercat Report 6 Dec 2009 15:18

the problem is you are discussing Dereks thread with gr not your own.
you have to prove that no one had access to Dereks computer.
you have to prove that Derek did not use someone elses computer.
you have to prove that Derek did not delete it himself.
when you have established that you are speaking for Derek with his permission perhaps then they will discuss with you about someone hacking Dereks account.
