Starting to research my partners tree & his grandmother Charlotte Karla Minna Martha Ahrens born 27 Jan 1906 Germany wed a Charles Goldsmith on 1st May 1948 in Hamburg. Charlottes address was 7 Hermann Loens Allee Hamburg Bramfield & Charles was English & listed as a Sgt reg no 14692755 R E (what woulf R E stand for?) and states he was on active service abroad BAOR and his father was also named Charles Goldsmith and retired. Its Charlotted im keen to get info on but she has no father named so where do i go from here?? Where can i get her birth certificate from?? any advice appreciated.

Don't know about the birth certificate, perhaps someone else will know.

But the R E stands for the Royal Engineers

You could try to obtain his service records but only available to NOK and are taking months to get them, these records are still held by the MOD so not online nor in the public domain.so not a quick solution,
Link to the Veterans agency

There may be records of Army marriages on Find my Past, but i dont have a sub again someone may advise.

Ok thanks for that info.
Charlottes son Rainer Ahrens is my partners father and Charles Goldsmith was his step dad. I would really like to find more info on Charlotte with having her date of birth and taking a chance on her being born in Hamburg Bramfield what is likelyhood of being able to get her birth certificate? If any one knows where i could order it from let me know?

Family information (birth, marriages, deaths) after 1876 in Germany is held by the register office (Standesamt) in each town.

The Standesamt which covers Bramfeld (German spelling of Bramfield), is probably:
Standesamt Hamburg-Barmbek/Uhlenhorst
website address:
http://www.hamburg.de/hamburg-nord/politik-verwaltung/standesamt/82890/standesamt-hamburg-barmbek-uhlenhorst.html

Their e-mail address is:
[email protected]

The website is all very friendly, so I am sure they would help if you e-mailed them.

It might be helpful to e-mail in German if you can. I am happy to help with this, if you don't speak German, let me know what you want to ask and I'll have a go at putting it into German (I lived in Germany some years ago so I'm a bit rusty, but sure I can make it understandable!).
